Special Olympics Hawaii Over the Edge Fundraiser Takes Giving to New Heights

It’s a tall order to rappel 40 stories down a building. But when Special Olympics Hawaii’s Over the Edge fundraiser returns on October 7, roughly 100 supporters will do just that. The annual event returns to the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa for the 14th annual event to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Hawaii. Registration is now open online at www.sohawaii.org.

Early bird registration is currently available through Tuesday, August 1, with a reduced fee of $50. For those registering after August 1, the registration fee is $100 per participant. For the safety of those participating, individuals under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian attend the event and sign a consent waiver. Participants must weigh between 100 and 300 pounds. All participants are asked to raise a minimum of $1,000 in donations.

“This is one of our favorite events that many of our supporters anticipate participating in year after year, ” said Special Olympics Hawaii’s Director of Development, Tracey Bender. “We are looking forward to returning to the beautiful Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa for the 9th year where participants will experience breathtaking ocean views and unparalleled hospitality.”

All participants will receive a special 2023 Over the Edge t-shirt. Additional prizes will be available to those who raise more than the $1,000 minimum. Monies raised through Over the Edge stay in Hawaii and support local athletes across the state. Since 2009, Over the Edge has raised more than $1,709,116 for Special Olympics Hawaii athletes and programs.

Those who wish to support Special Olympics Hawaii but do not want to participate in Over the Edge can also make a donation by visiting give.classy.org/overtheedge2023. This year’s Over the Edge event hopes to raise $175,000 for Special Olympics Hawaii. Hawaiian Telcom is supporting this year’s event as a Gold Medal Sponsor and Wai Koko Beverage Company as a Silver Medal Sponsor.
