This announcement has been a long time coming. So it might not come as a surprise to many that we’re moving (temporarily!) to Virginia for a year… or two.
Todd was recently accepted into an 11-month program so E and I have decided to tag along and experience all that NOVA / DC life has to offer.
I’m sure some of you may have questions… so here are a few of the ones I get asked most frequently.
(Typically the first question I get asked.) What are you going to do for work?
I plan to continue to operate my business here in Hawaii while “working remotely” from Virginia. Hey, we all did it for the last year+. Yes there will be some challenges like the time difference, but I have a team still on island, and plan to come back to visit A LOT (flights are currently just $500 RT). So it’s safe to say that you’ll probably be seeing even more of me than you did in 2020.
What is Todd doing?
He got into a school in the area. And no, its not the War College (c’mon I watched Madam Secretary).
What will you be doing with your house?
While I wish we didnt have to, we’ll be renting it out while we are away. I just hope the renters we find are good and care for the home we built as much as we did.
Where will you be living in VA?
We actually have already signed a rental lease on a lovely home in Alexandria. It’s 20 minutes from Todd’s school, 6 minutes from a Trader Joes, 6 minutes from a Chipotle, 20 minutes from Ikea and on and on and on. You can tell what kind of priorities I have. Also, that I might love it so much that I might never come home (JK).
Do you know anyone who lives there?
Yes, my cousin and her family are actually stationed there (though they’re currently in Hawaii and I dont know if they plan on leaving) and Todd has a friend that lives in DC. If you know of someone who lives there who wants to be my friend… let me know! 🙂
Are your parent’s mad?
Yup. But don’t worry Grandma and Papa, E will be back before you know it!
Where will E go to school?
He is still only two so he is in daycare but we have already signed him up for a daycare in the area.
Long story short — this seemed like the perfect time and opportunity to do something we will likely never get to do again. Sure the move is stressing us all out and driving me crazy… but there is lots I’m excited to see and do. The museums. The zoo. The food and breweries. The farmers markets. The road trips we can take (Disney World and Georgia Aquarium HERE I COME). The trip to Europe I have planned (Kat, I hope you’re getting ready for us!).
If you have recommendations on places to go, things to do, sights to see in Virginia SEND THEM MY WAY. I am starting all the lists to pack as much into what I’m sure at the end of this, will seem like a short time there.
