This year marks the 45th Anniversary of the Mrs. America pageant and representing Hawaii is Meghan Kakuhihewa Akim.
Akim, who was recently crowned Mrs. Hawaii attended Punahou high school -that is where she began her love of Neuroscience. She graduated with a Neuroscience degree with a focus on Education from Duke University.
She is currently a flight attendant with ambitions to become a commercial pilot and eventually open her own business in aviation / own flight school.
Meghan helped to start a charter middle school on the west side of Oahu and recently signed a 25 million dollar bond to expand it to high school.
Before winning the crown as Mrs. Hawaii, Akim was Mrs. Kaimuki. During Covid when many businesses were struggling, Akim helped to jumpstart Kaimuki businesses by establishing or strengthening their social media presence.
Her platform is F.L.Y. – First Learn to Love Yourself. You can equate the analogy to an inflight emergency. If the oxygen masks are needed to be worn during an inflight emergency, a parent is told to take oxygen first, so they may help their keiki and others around them.
“I have been blessed to have directed this pageant for the last 30 years, and I am confident that Meghan will represent Hawaii with excellence and her inner and outer beauty will shine,” shared Luana Alapa. “Meghan is elegant, and has a quiet confidence while being extremely humble – that is why she will be the perfect fit for Mrs. America as we celebrate this milestone 45th Anniversary.”
