Deskmates share snail mail system

In this era of tech everything, my daughter – a digital native! – encouraged me to return to communication by snail mail.

I told her that my friend Paul moved his desk next to mine. (Which is a whole ‘nother story because unearthing ten years worth of stuff from his former desk was quite something.)

I also said, “I’m not sure why he did it, because we never see each other in the newsroom.” We have different days off, and on the days we anchor together, he sits in the weather center outside the newsroom.

From the mind of an 11-year-old: Olivia said, “I’ll make you a mailbox where you can leave each other notes.” LOL, cute.

As if there weren’t enough ways to communicate already. In addition to the obvious options, our scriptwriting program also has a messaging function.

But it made Olivia happy to craft something she felt would be useful, so I brought the larger-than-expected, elaborate mail delivery system to work and set it up on the wall between our desks.

It looks like 6th grade has come to that section of KITV4, but Paul’s cool with it since he has a 6th grader, too. We shall be passing fancy notes. I just hope we don’t get busted.
